Day 12 - A Zero Day

Today was a Zero day which meant we were not walking and catching up on much needed rest and rejuvenation.

We have had some very tough and difficult days so now was a time to chill.

It was great to shower and wash my hair and also get my laundry done. We are staying at the Vermillion Valley Ranch and sharing a mini hostel. It’s a room about 20 x 30 made out of canvas attached to a wooden frame and with a wooden floor. Along each  side of the room are two single beds and the end wall also had two single beds. All very cosy but it was sure better than sleeping on the floor of my tent. The only negative was that my food parcel had not arrived and so I was scrambling to pull together enough food to get me through the remaining 6 days of our journey. Fortunately I had a couple of breakfast’s and dinners left over, and Huckleberry and Wayne offered up food, plus I was able to pick up a couple of things from the store here.

On the way down to VVR one of my hiking poles developed a problem insomuch the lower sections came loose and collapsed. Fortunately there was a terrific handyman called Craig, who is the Jack of all trades at VVR, and he was able to repair my pole. Thanks Craig ,you are a gentleman and a scholar sir.

The staff at VVR have all been great to us and they have gone out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. So thank you to Meg, Craig, Stephanie, Forrest, Ty, Dakota, Edith and Lindsay.

The one big advantage to our Zero was the chance to catch up on my blog and get it published. The area we have been travelling through is so remote there is no chance of a satellite signal. Therefore it has been great to finally let you see a glimpse of what we have been up to.

At VVR we bumped into a delightful Dutch couple, Bos and Iris who we first met about a week ago. They were leaving the day we were taking our zero and we will miss them. Safe travels guys.

We are leaving VVR today to resume our journey so I will close this now. Here are some photos.
