Biggest Mileage to date!!

We had our earliest start yet, leaving our campsite at 6-45 am.

The first 2 miles was a straight section followed by a big climb. We are beginning to feel a lot stronger now, although when it starts to warm up, it is extremely hard work, as the heat just zaps your energy. After a long climb up it only made sense, it would be an equally long climb down. What’s more, we did not encounter any snow! On the way down we met two eldeyladies from Sacramento, who were walking several hundred miles and they were ambling up the mountain without a care in the World! They were stopping here and there and taking photos of the flowers along the way.

We saw very few hikers today, and the walking was spectacular, and I feel we are very close to having our walking legs under us. I’m just hoping that Marvin can heal the ankle injury he has suffered as I know it’s causing him great concern. I feel that if he can overcome his injury that we can start to increase the mileage, but that might take another week or so.

The weather has been amazing, and we feel so blessed. Every day since started this journey, the Sky has been a crystal clear blue, with maybe two days with some cloud, and warm sunshine. The temperatures have been in the mid 20’d s almost every day and the nights are very comfortable for sleeping.

The afternoon consisted of more ups and downs, and we met 3 people on horseback just before lunch. They provided some great intel on the trail ahead, and we carried on downhill before enduring another uphill climb before enduring and a long tricky downhill section. I warned Marvin to be extremely cautious as the path was full of large slabs of stone that moved beneath your feet. Even for me, it was fraught with danger.

We eventually reached a campsite located by a bridge spanning the river, and as no one was there, we decided to see if we could find two decent camping spots. After pitching our tents and setting up our bedding, it was time to dip our feet into the cool water to clean off the days dust. It was heavenly. As we were preparing supper, a youngish women came into camp and claimed the last campsite. We made our introductions, and it turns out the lady hailed from Copenhagen, Denmark. Early Bird was the ladies trail name, and she had walked a portion of the trail last year and had returned to finish her quest this year.

Me and Marvin had positioned ourselves for a short 5-mile walk into Sierra City in the morning, where we planned to take another zero in the hope Marvin could rehab his sore ankle.

After dinner, I excused myself as I wanted to get caught up with my blog and returned to my tent to get started. Just like last night, I found myself “nodding,” which must be a cause of all the exercise and fresh air!

Finally, I was done, and now it was time for bed. It was still warm, and so I just threw the sleeping bag over me rather than climb into it and drifted off to sleep.
