Day 41 - Chicken Springs Lake

May 26

Depart Mile 729.50

Arrive Mile 750.87

I left late this, at 7:25 am, which is probably an indicator of just how tired I’m feeling. Ever since entering the the mountains, and the higher elevations, I’ve felt a slight change. I’m a notoriously poor sleeper, did I ever tell you I can hear snow landing on the roof, and so I don’t think that helps at all. The first hour or so was lovely, as I wound my way through a beautiful forest of Sequoia trees. I then endured a climb that saw me go from 9,000 feet up to 10,500 feet and the views were becoming spectacular. I took an early lunch at around 11 am, to take advantage of the sun and open meadow, in order to dry my tent and groundsheet which were wet as a result of another night of low temperatures. The first half of the afternoon was very pleasant but then I endured another 1,600 foot climb, followed by another of over 500 feet that took me up to over 11,200 feet, the highest I have been thus far. My destination was Chicken Springs Lake, and I arrived around 6:30 pm, after a most enjoyable day.

Another beautiful day in the High Sierras.
